Newsom labels Vance ‘dips—‘ over migrant health care spending claim

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Monday labeled Vice President Vance a “dips—” due to a claim the vice president made about health care spending for migrants.

In a clip posted by the White House’s rapid response on the social platform X account Monday, Vance said Democrats had put forward “a $1.5 trillion spending package, basically saying to the American people, ‘We want to give massive amounts of money, hundreds of billions of dollars, to illegal aliens for their health care, while Americans are struggling to pay their health care bills,’” amid negotiations over a looming government shutdown.

“Blatantly false, you dips—,” Newsom shot back in his own Monday post on X.

Newsom’s use of the term may be referencing Vance’s own use of the word to describe “Pod Save America” host and former Obama staffer Jon Favreau last week.

Favreau seems to have jokingly embraced Vance’s label, with his X biography simply reading “Dips—.” He also reposted Newsom’s post.

Tensions between Republicans and Democrats are high in Washington, as a possible government shutdown looms. In a separate post on X Monday, Newsom stated that “Republicans have control of the House, Senate, and White House.”

“If the government shuts down, it’s on them,” he added, mirroring similar comments from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) from over the weekend.

The Hill has reached out to Vance’s office for comment.
